"syntaxman":Wade Curry

I've been hanging around the KPLUG group since they were meeting in the back of Computer Parts Plus. I didn't make it to the meetings often, but I remember going to my first meeting where Nandy (Druppy) was showing off a cool and new graphics program called the Gimp. It crashed and George Lebl quipped that "windows emulation" was built in.

I was devoted to Slack in the beginning, but tried several others. These days, the only decent distro is Debian. I might add that the Curry home has no MS products running on any of the PC's, and the wife, the 7 year old and the 5 year old play on the PC just fine. Not that the wife is completely sold on Linux, but she loves me more than Microsoft, so we're still together. As time goes on she realizes more things she can to with this OS and apps, and things get easier for her. I just make sure there's a pretty, clicky interface like Gnome so that the family doesn't get too intimidated. (CLI is beautiful!)

For work, I maintain applications and batch flow on various mainframes for SBC. I'm just getting started, but I find it very interesting. Linux is running on one of the sysplexes in Dallas, but I don't get to play with it at all :-(

When I'm not poking a keyboard, I'm usually romancing my wife, parenting my 3 kids (#4 is coming in May), or fly fishing. I also have a penchant for languages, since I have a degree in linguistics. I'm hoping to go back to school for it sometime in the next couple of years. I don't know where it will be, but hopefully somewhere where the fly fishing is good! :-)
