ThunderChicken is bofh(at)stremler.net's IRC handle. It was originally his "xpilot":http://www.xpilot.org/ handle, and before that, he had used it on a number of minicomputer and BBS systems.

He has been using Linux since the early 90's, with the pre-1.0 release of Slackware (He started going to the computer shows at the scottish rite center to buy floppy disks in bulk to feed his slackware installation
needs). He was first exposed to Unix in the late 80's, but he was still enamoured of Prime minicomputers at the time, so it didn't take, but he started using Unix significantly in 1991 when he started attending SDSU.
He was an Amiga Zealot in 1985, and still hasn't quite lost his appreciation for elegant technically superior solutions, or the resentment that comes from seeing superior technology lose out due to clever
marketing (i.e. lying to split up the competition who all should be allies, not enemies). Consequently, he does not feel is appropriate for Linux to compete with other Unix operating systems, as they should be
allies, not competitors.
In the mid-90's, he worked for a company that had bought in to the Microsoft way - hook, line, and sinker - and spent three years developing on Microsoft Windows and Microsoft NT machines, and maintaining
a large Microsoft Windows/NT network. This convinced him that Microsoft software is unsuitable for real world applications or use. He has resolved to avoid all things Microsoft.
The DoD has certified him as a level 3 unix system administrator.
He is currently employed as a software engineer, specializing in Java. He is unable to entirely recover from Systems Administration and keeps being given root access to key machines, but he has managed to restrict himself to the administration of UNIX/Linux systems.
