I am some random crazy scientist who likes to use PHP for web stuff, vim for text editing, and sed/awk/python/php/java for off-line processing of data. And who used to live in sunny San Diego, but now calls home (once again) to Lima, Perú.

Member of the PEAR development team. See a list of packages I maintain in PEAR. Also (inactive) member of the PHP Documentation team, which is the group of people writing the PHP Manual

My real job is as a scientist. I did research on metalloproteins, and built the Metalloprotein Database and Browser (MDB). Now, I am back in my home country of Perú, and plan on starting a Bioinformatics group over here, along with introducing people to the goodness of using Open Source to free themselves from dependencies that they should rather be without.

You can read a paper about the MDB we published on Nucleic Acids Research. Also, there are talks about the MDB, some are mirrored at the old PHP talks site and the new PHP talks site. Most of these talks, and some recent ones I've given in Perú, are in the "Talks" section of my personal site.

I am also a member of the San Diego PHP users group (SDPHP), where I've given some more talks http://www.sdphp.net/talks/.

While in San Diego, I used to meet for informal lunch discussions with a bunch of people doing Bioinformatics, and we are setting up a simple web site for the BioInfoLunch? group [2005-06-07: site no longer exists]?

You can find some random notes and rants I've written on my own domain. They include some of the recent talks/conferences I have attended, and some pictures, and software I've written over the years.
