There are lots of ways to get help in getting started with Linux or with existing Linux problems you may have.
The mailing list is one of them.
When you post to the list (any list, really) asking for help you are asking for a favor and you should make it as easy as possible for others to grant you that favor. There are many people on the list interested in answering your question. If they don't understand your question try again with "Sorry, I was unclear. Let me rephrase the question..." or something to that effect. Regardless of whether it was actually warranted or not. A little humility goes a long way in getting a favor.

window$ vista on a laptop --ckepford, Sat, 16 May 2009 00:19:07 -0700 reply
Hi! As a birthday present my wife got me a brand spanking new Acer laptop weighted down with Vista. I have tried a few distros--RIP linux with little luck. I am writing this from a Kubuntu Live disk and just installed Firefox. I have been unable crack Vista, though. Any suggestions as to how to install linux with or without Vista would be greatly appreciated. Many, many thanks in advance
Cherokee-MySQL-PHP --tpoppe, Thu, 14 Jan 2010 10:28:46 -0800 reply
Hi there folks. I'm brand new to Cherokee, Linux, PHP, and MySQL. However, I am eager to learn, I just don't know where to start. My interests in the technology stem from my work in proj management. I'd like to develop customized database interfaces for construction related projects. I've been perusing the net loo...king for a straightfoward guid on how to set-up a Linux-Cherokee-MySQL-PHP system. No such luck though. I located one site that references a Cherokee set-up for Jaunty(?). I'm using Ubuntu though. I imagine its very similar, but am growing weary of having to restore my Ubuntu set-up after multiple attempts at configuring all the apps to work together. Can anybody help? I live in San Diego, any local, live assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.See More
