Maybe common disk encryption is so compromised, there's no point to implementing?

In that case, surely the right solution is to firmly reject all
operating systems and other software and hardware in general that is
subject to the adjective "modern", and only use those technologies
which are 18 or more years old - those that have reached the right
level of maturity...
