myth gradually getting more unstable

I think that there are errors accumulating in myth's databases. How do I
purge them without losing the recording rules I've set up? If I have to lose
those too, fine, but I'd like to avoid that.
The most enfuriating thing that it has been doing (more and more) is using
both tuner cards to record the same program even though there is only one
recording rule for the program, sometimes neglecting other programs as a
result. The worst part is that I can look and verify that everything in
upcoming recordings is all as it should be, but moments later, the clone
entry appears.
What gets me right now is that one program slot says it can't record because
of a conflict that doesn't exist. There are two programs in a row on the
same channel (6.1) and it's already using the other card for a program on
another channel (39.1). All it has to do is use a second tuner from the same
card for the second program that's on the same channel, something that it
has done many times before. There is no discernible reason why it won't do
that now.
Both digital tuner cards are capable of recording up to 5 channels at once
(a limitation maximum of myth, which actually defaults to a limit of 1), as
long as each of the 5 channels are all sub-channels of the same major
channel, even if they are all the same sub-channel. I can set up 5 manual
recording to record simultaneously on the same major channel, whether the
sub-channels are the same or not, even if there's only one tuner card in the
system. With two tuner cards, both can be recording the same major channel
or 2 different ones. I even tested it with 10 simultaneous recordings on the
2 cards.
