xhtml is bad, but why?

I was hoping to be convinced I could swap out OOo with Latex  but it
doesn't sounds like it.  The fact is there are LOTS of applications for
1-2 page sheets with fancy fonts, styles, etc.

e.g. fliers, signs (advertising)
