Or termination, or TERMPWR.  I presume your SCSI host adapter
has an external connector, which you are not using.  Can you
make a simple ASCII text diagram of the system as it is now
set up?  Like

   |host   |=======|drive|=========|drive|=========|terminator|
   |adapter|       |one  |         |two  |         |          |

but with some real names and SCSI IDs. 

This could be a project for some hands-on troubleshooting at an installfest.
I could bring some or all of:  known good disk drive in external box
			       known good SCSI host adapter in laptop
			       assorted cables and cable end adapters
