Mozilla v1.6 froze on rh9, I rebooted, and now Mozilla loads to "Select Profile"

This may pertain, if not, forgive me. There was an abrupt exit from Moz
on my wife's machine (RH 9) -- the 2-yr-old may have cycled the power, I
don't remember. After a prayer of thanks for journaling file systems, we
found the same behavior on her Moz.

I get vague here ... I'm older, you know. IIRC Moz claimed that one of
its lib files was opened already. I ran lsof (man lsof for more) to find
out which one, and then used 'touch' to clear it (why that worked, I
have no idea ... rebooting didn't). Then Moz gave me a short list of
possible profiles when it loaded, and selecting the default got her back
running.
