I've gotten Alsa to work on RH9 with kernel 2.6.3 and 2.6.4
I had a couple of problems, but all is good now. Here's some things I did,
copied from my notes.
Got the latest Alsa libs, utilities, and drivers
Now unzip and install the alsa-lib package
tar -xf alsa-lib-xxx
Now unzip and install the alsa-utils package
tar -xf alsa-utils-xxx
Unzip the alsa driver package (I did not install this driver, I used the one
from the kernel, but in this tar there was a utility I ran:
Then set the volume:
Let me know how it goes, I'll will work on the notes a little more.

Subject: Sound trouble
On RH9, the sound modules are loading, but I can't play anything. If I
rmmod -r snd, I get a message saying it's busy. So, it looks like
something is hogging snd for its exclusive use. How can I find out
what, or force rmmod to unload snd and all associated modules?
