That doesn't actually /help/ the situation.  We have someone who did
try running the code thru some automated tools, but it screws up more
code than it fixed, formatting-wise.

Not in this group.  We don't take kindly to that sort of thing...

Yup.

Nor can you subclass it away. 

However, unit-tests before code seems to hold promise... it's just so
HARD to remember to do.
