Why should *other* routers drop the connection ? Router doesn't know
about connections, it just know about packets.

Take a look at the keep alive settings on the ssh server and client
side. You might find something there.

I think it is a good idea to close idle sessions automatically. You can
use terminal prorgrams like 'screen' to be able to disconnect/reconnect
old sessions etc.
