I am not sure what the response is going to be to that last bit...large
bit....but I think this should be clarified.
Its not really about Linux vs Microsoft . Its about Joe User. we can argue
the merits or demerits of any given OS. But its really about what causes
paradim shifts in the consumer. Linux is just not at the point to cause this
yet. Even if it does...its going to take more than just that....there will
have to be many other major factors in place......most of which I am ignorant
to. Think back to 1970 if you can...if not look it up...or infere it from
what others have told you. In 1970, almost all cars driven and purchase by
Americans were American....with only a slightly noticeable chunk going to
volkswagen. Every other manufacturer was insignificant(in terms of raw
units). Then came the Japanese car revolution in america. Sure, the Japanese
cars were better built, got better gas mileage, lasted longer. thats not
precisely why it happened though. Nationally, money got tighter, the gas
crisis, and a whole lot of factors I haven't the slightest knowledge about.
Besides, its not the OS that Joe User cares about.......its what he can do
with the computer. The apps, the apps , the apps.
