Registration, licensing, whatever... Lan was correct.
My point was that, no matter how cool the technology
(and getting around the persistent IRQ conflicts of the
day was way worth it), if you try to charge people too
much $$$ to make use of it, they'll just find ways to
do something else. Which, come to think of it, is pretty
much how Linux came about. Didn't Linus really like
Unix systems, but couldn't afford the hardware to
run one on his own? (Never mind the fees for Solaris,
HP-UX, ATT's SVR4[5,whatever]?
