I was running a certain other operating system, and likewise I was
receiving frequent lockups. The main cause was just after starting a game
in Half Life. As the console scrolled up the computer would freeze solid
so that not even the soft power switch would do anything, although reset
still worked.
Hardware was an Asus A7V133, Thunderbird 800, GeForce2 MX. Not too very
different from what you tested on.
When I installed newer motherboard drivers that helped a lot.
That's what I put it down to in the end. Outdated motherboard drivers.
What they actually changed in there I wouldn't have a clue. But fiddling
the video card drivers was no help at all.
