Yes. I've even asked cops there for directions (_that's_ a cross
cultural experience -- confuses the hell out of 'em to even be
spoken to).

Someone earlier mentioned the NYPD as an example of Bad Guys
[tm]. I've lived in New York. It has a large department. It has
some crooks on the force. Others are lazy and worthless.

That said, I would freely trust a New York cop by default, simply
because the odds are overwhelmingly in my favor. OTOH, when you
go to L.A., be afraid -- be very afraid.
