Oracle8i install

I have installed it several times.  I will have to look to see if I still
have the install notes that I used.

The release notes say

Well there's no "FAQ" on that page, I've got the jre...

"Download and install JRE 1.1.6 v5 from http://www.blackdown.org. Install
the JRE in any directory and create a symbolic link
from <CODE>/usr/local/jre</CODE> to <CODE>&lt;jre_
install_location&gt;/jre116_v5</CODE>."

jre_1.1.6-v5-glibc-x86.tar.gz

but it's not the newest version and I can't seem to know what to do with
it...

has anyone done this?
