| Place: | San Diego County Office of Education 6401 Linda Vista Road San Diego, CA 92111-7399 |
| Room: | Rooms 401 & 402 |
| Time: | 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM |
This presentation and discussion will show why customers are becoming bolder in adopting open source products for critical components of their infrastructure, and building better value and an improved relationship with their software providers. The increasing use of this new model creates new opportunities and demonstrates how the old, closed source model is failing. For those still using proprietary software, this session will cover the questions you should be asking your closed-source vendor about what actual value they are providing you - their end-user. Also discussed will be the contribution of Ingres to open source in August 2004, providing an alternative to commercial relational databases for the fiscally aware enterprise. Bill Maimone, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Engineering, will discuss the current status of Ingres, open source success stories, and the plans for the future. Topics to be addressed include:
The creation of the ""business open source"" community and its likely impact on the enterprise software market
How to identify the next set of leaders emerging in the market and how to identify a leader vs. a follower
The changing concept of the business open source "community"
