Kernel Panic Linux User Group will be holding a Linux Lab at University of California San Diego on February 13, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Because this is being held at UCSD in the CSE building, it's imperative that you bring all your own equipment, including keyboard, mouse, monitor, ethernet cable, power strip and anything else you might need to make your system work. There is ethernet in the room, and power, but power strips will help us share the limited power connections.

If you need assistance installing linux, look at the Installfest check list. If you need assistance getting software to work, using the command line, or otherwise learning about Linux, you are welcome, too.

Since fewer people need assistance these days installing, and more need help adding software, getting it to work, configuring devices and finding applications to do what they want, we have started calling these meetings Linux Labs.

We'll still help those who need help with installation. Since most Linux distributions are now very easy to install, there are just fewer people who need help with it these days.

Directions and Parking

Additional directions and comments from Carl Lowenstein:

Coming from the South, get off Interstate 5 at La Jolla Village Drive and turn left (West). Then turn right on Villa La Jolla Dr. towards the VA Medical Center. Go past the VA to Gilman Dr., turn right. Gilman drive curves around to a Tee-intersection with Voigt Dr., turn left. Follow Voigt Dr. to parking lot P502.

General advice: if you are unsure, find a Campus information booth (present at most entrance roadways) and ask how to get to parking lot P502. Follow signs for "Geisel Library" until you find a sign that says "Jacobs School of Engineering".

Approaching this direction on Voigt Dr. you will have passed on your left a large tan building with a small sign "Computer Science and Engineering", then a larger gray building with a large sign "Atkinson Hall". Then you come to a stop sign and parking lot P502 on your right. On Saturday, you can park anywhere that is not marked "Reserved" or "A Permit required 24/7".

Walking back along Voigt Dr., on the side across from the parking lot, you will find the opening for a rectangular tunnel through Atkinson Hall. Outlined by some white pillars. Go through the tunnel, and you will be in the courtyard. The centerpiece of the courtyard is a large stone golden bear. Look past the bear, slightly left, and see glass doors labeled "Computer Science and Engineering". Go through the door and see elevators on your left, restrooms on your right, and the entrance to CSE1202 just beyond the elevators.
