Samba 3 By Example

Good Companion

This book is an excellent companion to The Official Samba-3 HOWTO and Reference Guide.

This book requires some basic knowledge of Linux/Unix administration and knowledge of some basic editor. It also assumes you have read the Samba HOWTO and Reference Guide and the Samba HOWTO collection. Without the prerequisite experience some the examples may intimidate you and be difficult to follow.

This book is most appropriate for an experienced SAMBA administrator, trying to add features or manage complex configurations.

I found the book to be an invaluable resource. Example configurations are shown and discussed in-depth. There are examples for deployments from the smallest Windows network to distributed enterprise Windows network.

I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone administering a mixed SAMBA/Windows network, with the caveat that I recommend first have The Official Samba-3 HOWTO and Reference Guide in your library, and read it.
